SEMA TRIM Awards 2022 Winners

The SEMA show is the mecca of the automotive world. This is the show that manufactures wait all year long to release new products at. Builders work endless hours to watch their rides grace the halls and spectators start calling favors to see who can get them a pass into this event. Literally people from all over the world end up in Las Vegas for the SEMA show.

This year TMI Products wanted to recognize the hard work these manufactures and builders accomplished throughout the year. The TRIM Awards were created where builders entered their rides to see who had the best interiors, regardless if they had TMI inside or not.

“With TMI celebrating its 40th Anniversary, there’s no better way to share our anniversary than to give back to our industry especially after so many OE’s pulled out of this year's SEMA Show. The OE’s that left SEMA also took away the many trophies and awards that so many builders would strive for. We wanted to make sure recognition was still happening for the builders and that’s where the TRIM Awards came from,” stated Ross Berlanga, Marketing Director for TMI Products.

The TRIM Awards were chosen based off the decisions from an expert panel of six independent judges. This means that hundreds of years of experience was combined to chose the absolute best of the best.

The TRIM Awards had multiple and distinct categories for winners. Having a TMI interior wasn’t a requirement to enter the TRIM Awards but did open entrants up to more potential categories to win.

• Best TMI Car Interior: James Lawrence, 1966 Chevrolet Chevy II This Chevy II packs a punch from bumper to bumper with a massive ProCharged BBC under the hood, the interior needed to match the cars performance. That’s not a wrap either, that’s matte white paint that was a challenge to lay down as you can’t sand it, it has to be perfect straight out of the gun. James chose a contrasting Black Vinyl and Black Suede with white racing stripes to tie everything together. He chose a pair of Pro-Series Universal Sport-SS Chicane II seats along with matching door panels, dash pad, and universal console.
• Best TMI Truck Interior: Daniel Stewart, 1967 Chevrolet C10 This truck was sitting right under the Judges’ noses as it was a booth vehicle for TMI. Laying down on the rockers with a slick black paint job with copper flake, this truck featured a Double-Diamond Stitch interior using Black Distressed Vinyl and Tan Distressed Buck Vinyl on a TMI 60” Deluxe Sport Bench, molded door panels, and carpet kit.
• Best Full TMI Interior: Ken Johnson, 1971 Chevrolet Nova Ken Johnson had a vision for his Nova - a pure badass street car that can do it all. He chose a complete TMI interior to match the supercharged LS under the hood. The interior comprises everything TMI offers for the car including Pro-Series Universal Sport-SS Chicane II seats in the front, matching door panels, carpet, floor mats, one-piece headliner, dash pad, console, and even a trunk kit all stitched up in Distressed Blood Red Vinyl.
• Most Creative Interior: Terry Rose, 1976 GMC Jimmy Terry Rose is no stranger to building custom builds. For this latest build he wanted to modernize a Squarebody and took inspiration from a Rivian. The entire dash looks like he took it right out of a Rivian but it’s actually completely custom built to fit the Squarebody. The rest of the interior is just as clean as the dash and won over the Judges’ approval.
• Best Color Matching Interior: John Sutherland, 1932 Ford Roadster Talk about re-inventing the wheel, John Sutherland built a ‘32 Ford in a way that blew away the judges. The interior was clean, classy, and flowed perfectly with the rest of the build. The twin-turbo engine grabbed the Judges attention but the level of detail on the interior and the way John tied everything together earned him an award.
• Best Custom Car Interior: Chuck Hanna, 1978 Pontiac Trans Am Batter’s up! Chuck Hanna built a 1978 Trans Am the way it should have been built! The bright and rich red interior instantly demanded the Judges attention. They then noticed the white baseball stitching that went throughout the interior. A custom set of Recaro seats fit right at home for this show stopping ride.
• Best Custom Truck Interior: Ricky Holly, 1976 Chevrolet Blazer At first you might think, that’s not a Blazer! But that’s what it started life as before it was converted into a unibody truck. The attention to detail and level of quality is what won this truck an award. From bumper to bumper there was a theme with mesh that carried from the grill, to engine, to interior, to even inside the exhaust tips! This interior set the bar and was noticed.
• Fan Favorite: Jeremy Rice, 1974 Chevrolet C30 Tre5 Customs is an experienced builder and it shows. This ‘74 C30 is a crew cab dually that lays on the floor while still maintaining its towing capabilities. Jeremy didn’t stop there and updated the interior to have four individual bucket seats with a console that flows from the back to the front.
• Best Of Show Champion: Wes & Vivian Rydell, 1941 Chevrolet Fleetline All the Judges agreed on the Best Of Show Champion as the amount of fabricating and work that went into the build was over the top. This ‘41 Fleetline started life as a four door car but the team at Rad Rides by Troy converted it into a two door car! The front doors were elongated, eliminated the rear doors, and a ton of other sheet metal work to get the proportions just right. Everything inside was hand crafted to achieve a factory looking ride that would fool most that passed by it. The front seats are from a Cadillac ATS and a custom matching rear seat while it’s all stitched up in a rich Red Garrett Leather. Modern amenities can be found such as power windows, modern touch-screen stereo, and climate control. When the judges realized not only the attention to detail with the upholstery but the sheer amount of metal work that it took to create this ‘41, they all agreed this was the best interior of the SEMA show.

Judges Include: In order to be as fair and unbiased as possible TMI utilized a team of independent and expert Judges that have 100’s of years of experience between them.
